Daniel J. Cohen is a partner in the Litigation Group at A.Y. Strauss. Dan has over 30 years of experience in both state and federal courts, as well as bankruptcy courts and arbitration forums. His practice spans a broad range of areas, including general commercial litigation, chancery litigation, labor and employment, lender liability, insurance coverage, probate disputes, class action litigation, pharmaceutical litigation, product liability, legal ethics, and appellate advocacy.

Dan serves as general corporate and litigation counsel to small, mid-sized, and publicly traded companies across diverse industries, including lending, manufacturing, medical devices, advertising and marketing, information technology, franchising, real estate, hospitality, staffing, and consumer products. He advises clients on a broad spectrum of legal issues, including litigation and alternative dispute resolution, business disputes, injunctive and equitable relief, minority shareholder oppression claims, disputes among members and shareholders in closely held entities, fiduciary duties and statutory obligations, restrictive covenants, contract disputes, corporate formation, and employment-related claims such as wrongful discharge, discrimination, harassment, whistleblower, and wage and hour matters.

His practice also includes representing creditors in foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings and negotiating, reviewing, and drafting a wide range of commercial agreements, including confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, licensing agreements, employment agreements, forbearance agreements, master service agreements, joint venture agreements, buy-sell agreements, distribution agreements, and vendor contracts. Dan also has substantial experience in probate litigation, including will contests, guardianships, and contested trust and estate matters.

Dan has served as both national and local counsel in New Jersey and New York for a wide array of organizations and industries such as pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and medical device companies in complex liability, class action, and mass tort litigation. He also represents businesses that provide related services, such as sales, market research, medical education, patient education platforms, and brand development.

He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Wilfred P. Diana of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division, General Equity Part (1991–1992), and subsequently served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Somerset County from 1992 to 1995.
