A.Y. Strauss, a leading boutique law firm focused on commercial transactions and litigation in the areas of real estate, construction contracting, bankruptcy, and franchising law, is pleased to announce that Kelly M. Purcaro has joined the firm as a Partner in the Commercial Litigation group. Purcaro will co-chair the Litigation Group specializing in complex civil and commercial litigation across the United States and will serve as chair of the Class Action practice group. Purcaro was previously a partner with Cohn Lifland Pearlman Herrmann & Knopf LLP. Also joining the firm is Massiel D. Suarez as a paralegal in the Litigation Group.

Purcaro, who currently serves as co-chair of the Class Action Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association, said, “I am excited to join A.Y. Strauss and advance my commercial litigation practice with my colleagues in the firm’s practice groups. This is an opportunity to expand my practice while offering clients my case management experience with class action matters as well as trial and appellate strategies for sophisticated commercial litigation disputes.”
Purcaro earned her J.D. from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey School of Law, her MSW from Rutgers Graduate School of Social Work, and her B.A. from Rutgers University. She was the first MSW graduate fellow accepted into the Eagleton School of Political Science. She began her career as a legislative advocate and Director of Government Relations for a non-profit law firm. While attending law school, she served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Stanley R. Chesler in the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, and prior to her litigation career in the private sector, she clerked for the Honorable Edith K. Payne in the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey.
Purcaro is admitted to practice in the State and Federal Courts of New Jersey, the State of New York, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
A member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Bergen County Bar Association, Purcaro is an active pro bono trial lawyer for victims seeking protection through the Bergen County Alternatives to Domestic Violence Project. In addition, she regularly appears as a guest lecturer at the New Jersey State Bar Annual Meeting and Convention and for continuing education seminars such as NBI and ICLE.
Purcaro has been included in the list of New Jersey Rising Stars by Super Lawyers in 2012-2019. She was also included in (201) Magazine’s list of Bergen County’s “Top Lawyers” in Commercial Litigation in 2015-2019.
